  10.           This file contains a brief listing of new features and other
  11.           changes in PC-Vault 4.5 and 4.6 that have been added or changed
  12.           since version 4.4w.  Enhancements which apply only to PC-Vault
  13.           Plus are listed at the end of this file.  If you are not already
  14.           familiar with version 4.4w or later, please skip this file and
  15.           read your Administrator's manual.

  18.                     New In PC-Vault and PC-Vault Plus Version 4.5
  19.            
  20.           The implementation of Maximum Floppy Boot Protection is
  21.           completely new and uses totally different techniques from those
  22.           used in prior versions.  It will be much more secure against a
  23.           hacker who is trying to break in.  In addition, we expect it will
  24.           be more compatible with today's variety of disks, controllers,
  25.           and software.    
  26.            
  27.           Substantially improved compatibility with OnTrack's Disk Manager. 
  28.  
  29.           Password aging and reuse can be selected on a per user basis. 
  30.           Except on XTs, use of Password Aging no longer requires the
  31.           PC-VAULT/A statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  33.           You can choose what is displayed during password definition.
  34.  
  35.           All writes to the master boot record are prohibited.
  36.            
  37.           The administrator can prohibit users from changing the system
  38.           date and time.
  39.            
  40.           HelpUser can now be used to grant either Administrator, or User 1
  41.           access to a PC.

  43.           WHO /L will display the name of the current user and the date and
  44.           time of the user's previous logon.

  46.           WHO /E will cause an environment variable to be defined:
  47.           PCVU=username. This is very useful in batch files.  Example:

  50.           The number of users in addition to the administrator has been
  51.           increased to 12.

  53.           The LogOff, PcvCrypt, and Wipe utilities have been added.

  58.           The Windows 32 bit disk driver (also known as FastDisk and
  59.           WDCTRL) will now load and work correctly.

  68.           A comment may be placed in the CONFIG.SYS file prior to
  69.           installing PC-Vault, which will cause PC-Vault to place its
  70.           DEVICE statement on the line following the comment and format it
  71.           correctly for the memory manager you are using.
  72.            
  73.           If a virus invades your master boot record or DOS boot sector or
  74.           either is "trashed", PC-Vault will recognize the condition and
  75.           ask if you would like for PC-Vault to rebuild it for you.

  77.           If the administrator states that the person installing PC-Vault
  78.           is to be the administrator (See PC-Vault /P in your manual), he
  79.           may also require that the administrator password be entered
  80.           before PC-Vault will install.  This will prevent unauthorized
  81.           persons from installing PC-Vault, and ensure that the installer
  82.           knows the administrator password.

  84.           The copy of PC-VAULT.EXE to be modified during PC-Vault pre-
  85.           installation may reside in any drive/directory.

  88.           New parameters have been added to the EXEC program that increase
  89.           the administrator's control over what a user is allowed to
  90.           execute.

  92.           A new parameter has been added to SET-TIME which returns the auto
  93.           LunchBreak time to the time selected from the PC-Vault main menu.

  100.           Password expiration can be set on a per user basis.  If a user's
  101.           passwords are set to expire, they will automatically become
  102.           expired when they are changed by the administrator.  This forces
  103.           a user to change his/her password the first time they use one
  104.           selected by their administrator.

  106.           The administrator can prevent the user from changing his password
  107.           when it expires.  This capability is provided to support such
  108.           activities as software rental, or ensuring return of a notebook
  109.           computer.

  111.           The Hot-Key can now be defined during pre-installation.
  112.  
  113.           WHO /L also tells the number of days until the current user's
  114.           password expires.

  116.           On installation, PC-Vault will insert a DEVICE statement for each
  117.           REM CLEANDSK.DRV HERE statement in your CONFIG.SYS.  This
  118.           provides support for DOS 6.0 multiple section CONFIG.SYS files.

  128.           A new line on the Directory Access Control screen allows the
  129.           administrator to control each user's permissions to newly created
  130.           level 1 sub-directories.
  131.            
  132.           Execute access is both necessary and sufficient to execute
  133.           programs under Windows (this is a bug fix). 
  134.            
  135.           The log file, ACCESS.SYS, is now locked and encrypted.  FLUSHLOG
  136.           now has a /U switch which unlocks the log file.  The LOG utility
  137.           (LOG.EXE) will automatically decrypt the log.
  138.  
  139.           The global .EXE/.COM access control has been replaced with
  140.           control for each root & 1st level directory.  (See the PC-Vault
  141.           Plus main menu's D option.)

  143.           Directory permissions will be remembered across removal and
  144.           subsequent re-installation.

  146.           Directory permissions changes are effective immediately.

  148.           Changes in file accesses to be logged are effective immediately.

  153.           Permissions for newly created 1st level subdirectories can be

  156.           Users' access to serial and parallel ports can now be controlled

  160.           prohibited.  Either can be rebuilt by PC-Vault if it becomes
  161.           altered.
